PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides instruction to students with Emotional Disabilities, Autism, or other special needs in a setting where the emphasis is on communication and social skills, academic and functional skill instruction, and positive behavioral supports. Plans and implements daily-individualized instructional and behavioral intervention plans and effective curricula. Manages classroom setting by utilizing positive behavior supports, visual strategies and schedules, and instructional technology to create a structured environment which supports student success.
Support and implement the strategies and initiatives (where applicable) outlined in our Organizational Strategic Plan, Boldly Go 2025. Models the NHREC Strategic Plan values: Equity, Engagement, Experience, Collaboration, Career Readiness, and Empowerment. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Special Education
- Qualify for a Virginia Teaching License with endorsement in general curriculum or adapted curriculum
- Experience as a special education teacher is desired
- Experience working with students with Emotional Disabilities or Autism is desired
