GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops an understanding of the role of ethics in research that uses various methodologies associated with scientific research.
- Teaches content and skills in ethics and research methodologies utilizing curriculum designated by the Governor’s School for Science and Technology.
- Teach students how to write research proposals and how to do experimental design.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with Governor’s School of Science and Technology’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Plans a research and ethics curriculum involving lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning.
- Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate attendance records and other record keeping activities as necessary.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the work day.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Administers testing in accordance with Governor’s School for Science and Technology testing practices.
- Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
- Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including after-school activities.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a strong background in writing skills and/or research. Must be eligible or possess Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement. |
