GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsible for teaching student’s Pharmacy Technician coursework using state competencies and licensing requirements. Supervise, instruct, and guide students in a classroom and applied setting.
The Pharmacy Technician Instructor will function within the policies and practices of the New Horizons Regional Education Centers and the cooperating clinical and state agencies. Responsible for developing and planning instruction to meet diverse student population needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans appropriate curriculum using State Competencies and licensing requirements.
- Provides relevant learning experiences by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Evaluates student performance and monitors students’ progress to maintain measurable and appropriate student academic progress.
- Conferences regularly with parents/guardians regarding behavior observations and the performance of students.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the principal, program administrator or other appropriate administrator.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must currently be licensed to practice as a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in Virginia.
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Associates’ Degree in Pharmacy Technician.
- Must qualify for a Virginia Teaching License through VDOE
- Maintain professional certification according to Virginia Recertification Regulations.
- Five years of successful years of satisfactory occupational experience as a professional pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
- Ability to effectively supervise pharmacy students in the lab and in the classroom.
- Ability to prepare students for state licensing examinations.
- Must be willing to demonstrate on-going continuing education if the field of pharmacy and/or education.
